65 participants of a meeting detained in the capital of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani police detained 65 participants of an unauthorized action in Baku which had been planned by a number of oppositional parties, law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan report.
"Official records were made on the actions of 40 of them in district police departments and the cases will be referred to court", a joint statement of Police Headquarters and Public prosecutor's office of Baku runs.
The rest 25 persons out of those detained were released after the respective warning. They were also interrogated", "Trend" reports.
About 150 people tried to approach "Sakhil" park from different points in several groups but these attempts were suppressed by the police", Police Headquarters and Public prosecutor's office of Baku report.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that the Azerbaijani opposition decided to hold the meeting it had planned before on April, 17, 16:00 local time in "Sakhil" park of Baku with the demand of democratic reforms for they had rejected the suggestion of Mayor's office to organize the action in remote suburbs of Baku.
Half an hour before the beginning of the action the police encircled the park and did not let anyone in. Simultaneously, the police started mopping-up the park driving everybody back including holidaymakers, retirees and families with children. There were two women journalists from Swedish national TV company ("Channel-1") among those detained. Several oppositionists were detained in "Sakhil" park, too.
