Judgement of guilt passed to rally participants in Georgia

Today, the Tbilisi City Court has announced its ruling on the case of the persons detained on April 4 at the rally in support the prisoners' rights. They were sentenced to 20 and 25 days of administrative arrest.

According to the ruling, Gennady Kekeliya, an activist of the Refugees' Civil Movement, was sentenced to 25 days of administrative arrest, while Grigol Kharebava and David Kochiev from the "Georgian Party" and Irakli Tsikoliya, another activist of the Refugees' Civil Movement, were sentenced to 20 days in jail. The remaining detainees were fined by 400 laris each, including Ada Marshaniya, Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Abkhazia; Shota Glurdzhidze, a member of the "Resistance Movement"; Ketevan Goginashvili and Tengiz Glonti, members of the "Georgian Party"; Gocha Chkheidze, an activist of the "Free Democrats"; and Madonna Gogua, a participant of the action.

As it turned out, during the rally, some of the detainees threw raw eggs at the building of the Supreme Court. According to the police, they were detained for blocking the traffic in Zubalashvili Street, where the courthouse is located.

"It's a very strange accusation, since, firstly, the rally was sanctioned, and, secondly, why didn't they detain during the rally. Besides, the traffic in Zubalashvili Street is not heavy - the street is located on Mtatsminda Mount; people rarely drive there," said Lado Sadgobelashvili, leader of the Movement "Homeland, Language, Faith".

The action "Justice is coming" was the second rally organized by the "Resistance Movement" near the monument to Shota Rustaveli. The first one took place on March 25.
