In Dagestan, Anvar Sharipov's father knows nothing about his son

Rasul Magomedov, a resident of the village of Balakhany, Untsukul District of Dagestan, and father of Anvar Sharipov, says that he knows nothing about the fate of his son who is now in Italy. Anvar Sharipov, brother of Maryam Sharipova, who, according to investigators, blew herself up in Moscow metro in March 2009, is suspected of complicity in preparing the explosions.

"Today the court of the city of Trieste (Italy) was to consider Anvar's petition on granting political asylum, but I don't know the results," Magomedov said on April 1. He added that he had communicated with his son on the Internet two days ago. "Anvar told me that he was all right. He lived in a small room with another man. I would like to go to him, but I have no money for that," said Magomedov.

Let us remind you that Sharipov was detained on January 6 on the train "Venice-Paris" near Venice. According to his story, he was on his way to Paris to petition for political asylum in France. After his detention on January 6, Sharipov immediately asked for political asylum in Italy. In Russia, as he explained, he could be tortured. On January 27, in the city of Gorizia, Sharipov's request for asylum was considered the commission for political asylum; and Anvar's application was denied. On February 14, the lawyer Gianfranco Carbone filed a complaint against the denial of political asylum.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR, or the Strasbourg Court) also joined the Sharipov's case. According to the Italian legislation, within 15 days after an asylum-seeker was rejected by the authorities, he or she can be expelled from the country, even if the court had no time to consider his or her appeal. The lawyer Gianfranco Carbone, fearing that his client may be deported from the country, decided to file an urgent complaint to Strasbourg.

As a result, the Strasbourg Court has ruled that the Italian authorities could not expel Anvar Sharipov out of the country until the end of consideration of his complaint, and asked the Italian government to clarify whether there was "an opportunity to verify all the statements of the asylum-seeker associated with the risk of his becoming a victim of inhuman treatment, if deported to Russia."
