Baku: five rally participants suspected of crime
As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Azerbaijan, at today's rally in downtown Baku five persons were detained as suspects of criminal activities; 70 more were punished administratively.
According to a joint statement of the above agencies, about 350 persons in several groups from different directions tried to enter Fountain Square aiming to hold an unsanctioned rally there. Despite repeated warnings of the police urging to stop disturbing the public order, "radical oppositionists disobeyed and committed actions against public safety."
The Baku City Prosecutor's Office initiated criminal cases under Articles 233 (organization of actions that violate public order or participation in them) and 315 (resistance or use of force against public officers).
