Mudflow leaves Tskhinvali without water
As a result of an accident at the water main Edis-Tskhinvali, which was caused by a mudflow, the capital of South Ossetia remained without water.
"Down the Liakhva River a mudflow got down and seriously damaged the water pipe; five meters of the pipe need replacement," said Alan Gabaraev, Director General of the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) "Energy Resource-South Ossetia".
According to his story, this is already the second accident at the water main in the last two days. "One accident has been already eliminated - in the Dzomag village, where the pipe got frozen; and water stopped coming to the city. Tomorrow from the morning the repair crews of the SUE "Energy Resource-South Ossetia" will start eliminating the second accident," the "Interfax" quotes Mr Gabaraev as saying. "We hope that by Sunday evening water will come to Tskhinvali."
Residents of Tskhinvali often have water supply failures because of water main accidents. In the opinion of city authorities, 80 percent of water pipes need replacement.
