Rally of People's Party held in Armenia

The People's Party of Armenia is striving to become an alternative oppositional political force, its chairman Tigran Karapetyan said today at a rally. The party leader again accused the Armenian authorities of their anti-people policy, which has led to mass migration.

Manvel Markaryan, a People's Party activist, told the audience that an alternative national opposition movement is created in the country. "We are a new opposition; and our goal is to prevent frustration of people, as it happened in 2008. We are the third power, around which we'll unite people," he said.

Agasi Manukyan, another activist of the Party, accused the authorities of building such state system, where all the activities are aimed not at serving people, but at fulfilling the orders of the ruling elite. "Armenia has formed a royal-type system, when the authorities are looping absolutely everything on themselves," he said and called people to unite.

After the rally, a march to Freedom Square took place with about 200 participants.

Initially, for about ten minutes, policemen would not let demonstrators to the square, but later they let them to proceed. Tigran Karapetyan, Chairman of the People's Party, came to Raffi Ovannisyan, leader of the "Heritage" Party, who is holding his hunger strike in the square for about a week already, and expressed his respect and support to him. Their meeting, which lasted for several minutes, was accompanied by stormy applause of the protesters.

Let us remind you that Raffi's termless hunger strike was announced on March 15. The leader of the oppositional "Heritage" Party, a deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia and a former head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry is protesting against the situation in the country.
