In Armenia, former head of the Criminal Investigation arrested

At its closed meeting on March 24, the court of general jurisdiction of the administrative districts of Kentron and Nork-Marash decided to arrest Major-General Ovannes Tamamyan, former head of the Chief Department for Criminal Investigation of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, for the term of two months on charges of abuse of office.

On February 23, Agvan Ovsepyan, General Public Prosecutor of Armenia, submitted a presentation to Alik Sarkisyan, Head of the Police, challenging further presence in office of Major-General Tamamyan and head of the Arabkir Police Department Varuzhan Adamyan.

According to investigators, Tamamyan and Adamyan made a deliberate distortion of the circumstances of investigation into the murder committed on May 12, 2010; as a result of their deliberate actions, "the person who had committed the murder, was summoned only as a witness and escaped criminal liability," the "News.am" reports.

Tamamyan was charged under Part 2, Article 308, of the Armenian Criminal Code (abuse of office entailing, by negligence, grave consequences). He has already been brought to the penitentiary facility "Yerevan-Kentron", the "News-Armenia" reports.
