A meeting with a demand of abrogation of the result of mayoral election passed off in Armavir

On March, 21, several hundred residents of Armavir, Armenia, blocked Yerevan – Armavir highway as a sign of protest against the results of election of Mayor of the town.

The mayoral election was held in Armavir on March, 20. According to official data, Ruben Khlgatyan, Mayor in service, member of the ruling Republican party of Armenia, was reelected. His first competitor was Sevak Minasyan, member of the Council of Elders, non-party.

Minasyan states that there have been violations during voting and is going to file an appeal to court on the results.

The participants of the action of protest on March, 21, declared their protest against unfair mayoral election and demanded to acknowledge its results invalid, web-site of "A1+" TV-company reports. 
According to the demonstrators’ data, Khlgatyan during the electoral campaign resorted to violations and forgery which they reported to the police, however the police officials ignored their report.

The meeting was dispersed by policemen who according to eyewitnesses were using brute force, News.am reports.
