Alan Chochiev continues hunger strike in prison

Information and analytical Internet agency "Caucasian Knot" keeps on watching the situation with the arrest of Alan Chochiev, the well-know South Osetian public figure.

The editors received a letter from Anna Chochieva. She imparted some details of this case in it.

"I sincerely thank Memorial for the concern. You are the only human rights organization in Russia that has responded to our trouble," reads the letter. "Today Alan Chochiev is in the Vladikavkaz prison. He has been on hunger strike since October 19.

I ask the human rights organizations to familiarize themselves with my case No 12/1983 and make a legal, criminal and civil assessment of it. The flat of Alan Chochiev was searched on October 21. Gross violations of the active criminal remedial legislation were committed during the search: data storage products (video cassettes, disks and so on) were not inventoried; their content was not recorded; polyethylene bags that the data storage products were packed up in were not sealed.

A complaint about the illegal actions of the officials who conducted the search has been sent to the Department of the Russian Federal Security Service in the Republic of North Osetia - Alania and to the Prosecutor General's Office of the republic.

Besides, a computer UPS, seal of the "Adamon Nikhas" organization and Alan Chochiev's diploma certifying his Doctor of Historical Science degree of the Russian Academy of Sciences were stolen."
