Valery Khatazhukov: "The Kremlin is in many respects responsible that there is no civil society in Kabardino-Balkaria"

The Kremlin is in many respects responsible that the civil society has not matured in the republic, Valery Khatazhukov, executive director of the republican human rights public center in Kabardino-Balkaria said in his interview with the Caucasus Times correspondent.

The human rights activist stated, "The Kremlin's attitude to many national regions of the Federation resembles that of the mother country to its colonies and Kabardino-Balkaria is a vivid example of it. While Moscow imposes the political regime on the republic, the public organizations of Kabardino-Balkaria that does not accept this regime turn out outsiders for the Russian legal system."

According to Mr. Khatazhukov, there is neither a political nor a public organization remained in Kabardino-Balkaria that would oppose the local authorities.

The human rights activist added he reported the situation in the republic at the Russian human rights conference in Moscow.
