Georgian Labourites call UN to limit terms of presidency

The Georgian Labour Party calls on the United Nations to develop a special convention imposing a ban on presidents of all countries to be elected more than twice.

As stated by Shalva Natelashvili, Chairman of the Labour Party, in this way the UN will be able to prevent usurpation of power "by such people as presidents of Georgia and Libya."

"The recent events in the countries of the Arab world have shown how dangerous the dictators' power is; and people should be defended from them. Indicative examples are Libya and Egypt," the "News-Georgia" quotes Mr Natelashvili as saying.

"The international law protects whales, birds and so forth, but no one protects humans from dictators," said Natelashvili.

The labour leader said that according to the available information, the UN has already begun the work on such convention, the "Georgia Online" reports.
