UN Security Council puts Dokku Umarov on list of dangerous terrorists

The Committee of the UN Security Council on sanctions against Al-Qaeda, Taliban and persons and organizations associated therewith has put the North-Caucasian militants' leader Dokku Umarov on its consolidated list. It was reported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

"In accordance with this decision of the Security Council, the UN member states shall immediately introduce the regime of sanctions against Umarov, which assumes freezing of all his financial assets, the ban on movement and provision of any assistance, including sales of arms and allocation of financial resources," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the message of the MFA.

The "Interfax" adds that the Russian MFA has stressed the importance of the decision of the Committee of the UN Security Council on sanctions against Al-Qaeda and Dokku Umarov.

"This step means support of Russian position not only by the USA, which last year declared Dokku Umarov to be an international terrorist, but also by the UN Security Council, which gave an objective assessment of his crimes," said the Russian MFA.
