Volgograd medics rewarded for developing new drug

A group of Volgograd scientists headed by Rector of the Volgograd Medical University (VMU) received the Prize of the Russian Government for development of a new drug named "Asparkam-L".

The Prize was awarded to three scientists: Rector of the VMU Vladimir Petrov; Alexander Spasov, Head of the Pharmacology Division and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences; and Doctor of Biology Igor Iezhitsa.

The 2010 Government Prize in science and engineering and the title "Laureate of the Prize of the Russian Federation in Science and Engineering" was awarded to them for development of the preparation "Asparkam-L", which should help to improve health of people with heart problems.

The "Interfax" reports with reference to the press service of the Administration of the Volgograd Region, the drug has passed clinical trials and proved not only its high effectiveness but also superiority over foreign analogues.

The "Asparkam-L" has already gone to production, the portal "Rodnoy Gorod" (Hometown) wrote. According to preliminary data, this drug will be much cheaper than similar foreign-made drugs.
