KBR: rescuers search skier from near Moscow who got under avalanche

As reported by the Chief Department (CD) of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), over 20 rescuers are now searching Sergey Bashkirov, 23, a skier from the town of Korolyov near Moscow, who was covered by an avalanche on Mount Cheget near Elbrus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today in the morning two skiers were covered by a snow avalanche on the northern slope of Cheget in Kabardino-Balkaria. One of them managed to get out, while the fate of the other one is still unknown.

"Today around 10 a.m. two fans of extreme skiing were hit by an avalanche, they triggered themselves in the area of the cableway on the northern slope of Mount Cheget," said Boris Tilov, head of the Elbrus territorial search and rescue unit of the Russian MfE.

As reported by Kantemir Davydov, head of the press service of the CD of the MfE for the KBR, the rescue efforts are hampered by bad weather and constant threat of new avalanches. Besides, the skier had no avalanche signalling device on him, which could have accelerated the search, the "Interfax-South" reports.

The portal "Kabardino-Balkaria. World and We" notes with reference to rescuers that the skiers were not registered anywhere and were skiing in the banned zone.
