Rostov Region: MoPH reveals violation of examination term of blind baby by ophthalmologist
The commission of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) of the Rostov Region revealed violations in the central district hospital of the city of Volgodonsk, where parents of three children blame doctors of development of blindness in their babies.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the parents of blinded babies try to sue the doctors, who are guilty, in their opinion, of loss of vision by their babies. Parents of several infants believe that their babies got blind because of the negligence admitted by doctors of the city children's hospital.
"The ophthalmologist broke the schedule of screening patients with eye lesions; and the hospital administration was warned that this is inadmissible," the spokesman of the MoPH of the Rostov Region told journalists on February 1.
The check conducted by the commission of the regional MoPH on application of the parents of one of the victims has revealed that the prematurely born baby was examined for the second time by ophthalmologist at the age of two months, although premature infants should be examined once every two weeks, the "Interfax" reports.
However, according to Liudmila Bondar, press secretary of the regional MoPH, it did not affect the essence of the diagnosis.
"The schedule was broken by the ophthalmologist, but during that period the small boy was examined by neurologists and paediatricians," Ms Bondar said and added that the baby was diagnosed as an angiopathy (damage of blood vessels) of the retina, but it happens in almost all the newborns and can quietly grow into normal vision."
The spokesman of the GUVD (Chief Interior Department) for the Rostov Region has reported that the check, organized after parents had applied to the militia, was extended; while the Ministry set up a working group with the aim to clarify the circumstances of the case, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
