Attack on militaries on January 9 in Grozny was preceded by check of their IDs by local power agents

New details appear in the case dealing with the attack on servicemen of the special regiment of the Russian Ministry of Defence, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Bislan Elimkhanov, committed in Grozny on January 9. Shortly before the attack on Elimkhanov, the convoy was stopped for inspection by the local power agents. Supposedly, at least two of the "inspectors" later suffered in the shooting that burst out later at the checkpoint of the military base in Khankala.

Let us remind you that on January 9 at the checkpoint at entrance to Grozny an unidentified group shelled a convoy of three cars with servicemen. As a result, one of these servicemen, a local resident and, supposedly, one of the attackers were killed. Six soldiers, an employee of the Chechen MIA and two civilians were wounded.

The main version of the investigation is an attempt to kill Bislan Elimkhanov, commander of the special-purpose battalion of the GRU (Russian Military Intelligence) (former "Zapad" (West) battalion), who received seven heavy wounds, supposedly, from a sniper rifle.

"The three cars with Elimkhanov and his accompanying subordinates were stopped, immediately before the attack, at the STSI (traffic police) post, located near Khankalskaya Street on the highway running towards the village of Starye Atagi. Servicemen's IDs were checked by power agents dressed in black military uniform. Elimkhanov introduced himself and presented his ID, after which the convoy was allowed to follow along," a source from law enforcement bodies told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Then, according to his story, the cars of the convoy were overtaken at a high speed by a Priora car (servicemen on the convoy also used this model) with the local power agents later wounded in the skirmish at the checkpoint. "According to the servicemen, one of those wounded was surely the militiaman, who had checked their IDs," said the source.

According to one of power agents, the initial version that Elimkhanov and his staff were attacked by militants was not confirmed. "The real point is an attempt to kill Bislan Elimkhanov. It was undertaken not by militants, but employees of local law enforcement bodies; names of some of them figured in resonant cases involving murders," said the source.
