Ombudsman on Children's Rights to appear in Chechnya
On January 18, the Parliament of Chechnya considered a bill, which assumes creating the post of Ombudsman on Children's Rights.
The bill "On Amending the Constitutional Law of the Chechen Republic 'On Ombudsman on Children's Rights'" was brought to the legislative authority by the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov.
On the outcomes of the work of the Council of the Chechen Parliament it was decided to bring the bill to the next session of the Legislative Assembly.
In the opinion of an activist of a local NGO, who preferred to remain anonymous, creation in Chechnya of the institute of the Ombudsman on Children's Rights will help to solve a whole range of problems in the area of defence of children's rights.
"The list of problems relating to protection of children's rights in our republic is not less than in other regions of the country. But it so happened historically that all the children's problems are addressed, as a rule, by their parents or close relatives. However, the situation is changing; and today we need other methods and mechanisms to protect children's rights. Creation of the institution of Children's Ombudsman in the republic can only be welcomed, since it will allow solving many problems in the area of children's at a qualitatively higher level," he said.
