Rostov Region: water supply employee is accused of negligence resulting in poisonings
Vladimir Finenko, head of the water supply shop at the Municipal Unitary Enterprise (MUE) "Vodokanal" of the city of Semikarakorsk, Rostov Region, for whose fault, according to investigators, 96 citizens got poisoned with drinking water, will face trial. The criminal case against him was sent to the Semikarakorsk District Court for consideration on the merits.
Let us remind you that on February 17-21, 2010, over 400 persons, including children, addressed the Semikarakorsk district hospital with diarrhoeal syndrome. The reason, found out by sanitary doctors, was in contaminated drinking water.
Mr Finenko is accused under Part 1 of Article 236 (violation of sanitary-epidemiological rules, which has caused massive human disease by negligence) and Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code (negligence). The sanctions under these articles assume up to one and three months of imprisonment, respectively, as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Rostov Region.
The investigation has found that on February 11-22, 2010, Finenko failed to control, because of improper performance of his duties, the work of his subordinates in charge of the quality of potable water, which led to breach of sanitary-epidemiological rules.
As a result of using unsafe water from the distribution networks of the above "Vodokanal", 96 local residents got poisoned and found themselves in the Semikarakorsk district hospital with an acute rotavirus infection. Most of them were children.
