After mass brawl in Zimovniki, Rostov Region, district militia boss sacked
After a mass fight that burst out on December 18, 2010, in Zimovniki, a district centre of the Rostov Region, and the events that followed, the regional GUVD (Chief Interior Department) replaced the head of the local ROVD (District Interior Division) and sent additional forces there. This was stated on January 14 by the GUVD head Alexei Lapin, who answered the question of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about the situation in the region.
Let us remind you that the fight in Zimovniki, during which a young Chechen was beaten and hospitalized, was reported on December 23 by Alexander Dedovich, a Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Rostov Region. According to his story, local youngsters were beating the Chechen, a native of the village, while militia remained passive, since children of high-ranking officials were involved in the brawl.
Alexei Lapin said that the situation is extremely tense in the Zimovniki District. "The ROVD head was replaced there, since the former one ceased to monitor not only the operative situation but also the behaviour of his personnel and the relationships between people of the district," he said.
Mr Lapin said that 30 GUVD militiamen were additionally sent to the district, headed by the chief of public safety militia, who conducted the respective work with the Diasporas, Cossacks and the head of the administration, and then gathered them all together. The result of this meeting was a decision to set up joint patrols recruited from representatives of all the Diasporas and the broad public to recover the order.
