The authorities of Azerbaijan reported confiscation of arms from the relatives of the leader of Islamic Party
Prosecutor General’s and the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement in connection with the arrest of Movsum Samedov, leader of Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA).
According to the enforcement agencies, Samedov himself is suspected of terrorism and much arms and ammunition have been have been found in the houses of his two relatives.
According to the report of members of the top brass, Samedov who has formerly undergone an administrative arrest is suspected of disorderly conduct and preparation of acts of terror.
There has been a search in the house and shop of his cousin Daianat Samedov and the personnel of Chief Directorate of struggle against combating crime of the Ministry of Interior Affairs have found hand grenades and tommy guns with cartridges in the house of Firdosi Mamedrzaev, his other relative, the statement of the Ministry of Interior Affairs and Prosecutor General’s of Azerbaijan runs.
Sources in IPA which has practically passed to a quasi-legal status call these accusations “a provocation for the purpose of arrest of the party’s activists who condemn the decision of the authorities to prohibit wearing khijabs in schools”.
