ICPO of Russia: murder of Zarema Sadulayeva is not related to her professional activities

The main version of the murder of Zarema Sadulayeva, head of the NGO "Let's Save the Generation", in Chechnya was not confirmed in the course of investigatory actions.

"Initially, criminal actions had been planned against Zarema Sadulayeva's husband Alik Dzhabrailov," Mariam Nalaeva, spokesperson of the ICPO (Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office) for Chechnya, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her information, "when criminals came for Dzhabrailov, he was in Zarema's office." "They tried to take him away with them, but Zarema refused to let her husband go alone and went with him. She stayed with her husband until the end," said Ms Nalaeva.

The conclusion that criminals were interested in Dzhabrailov was made by the investigation based on witnesses' evidences and operative information. "Zarema was not involved in politics. The organization, which she headed, was engaged in socially oriented activities and helped sick children," said Mariam Nalaeva.

On August 10, 2009, Zarema Sadulayeva, 32, and her husband Alik Dzhabrailov were taken away by unidentified law enforcement agents from the office of the organization in Grozny. On the following morning the bodies of Sadulayeva and Dzhabrailov with multiple gunshot wounds was found in the village of Chernorechye, Zavodskoy District of Grozny, in the luggage compartment of their "Zhiguli" car parked in front of the Republic's Rehabilitation Centre.

Immediately after the murder of Malika Sadulayeva and Alik Dzhabrailov, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov stated that he would take the investigation of this criminal case under his personal control. At the same time, according to the current head of the NGO "Let's Save the Generation" Adlan Mukhamedov, the investigation into the murders "has not moved a bit" during these 18 months.
