European Court refused trial on over 1500 claims from South Ossetia
European Court of Human Rights has dismissed actions on almost half of the cases against Georgia connected with the events of 2008 because of failure to submit necessary information by the claimants, a representative of Press service of the Court reported.
Five cases from Ossetia declined by the Strasbourg Court had played the key role for further hearing of the remaining 3,3 thousand cases of South Ossetia against Georgia for according to Strasbourg procedures the judges could first bring a judgement on these five cases and then apply it to similar claims.
“The Court decided to exclude 1549 cases out of over 3,3 thousand under consideration against Georgia”, an official of Press service of the European Court explained.
According to him, the Court’s decision to close files on these cases was connected with the fact that the Court had not received the information necessary for trial. Following the procedure the Court had submitted requests for information twice but got no reply, RIA “Novosti” reports.
The armed confrontation between Georgia and South Ossetia began on August, 8, 2008. Russia soon interfered in the conflict. The war lasted five days.
