Remains of archaeologist who disappeared in the mountains found in Abkhazia
In a forest in the upper section of the Kelasur River, a local resident found the remains of archaeologist Gennady Ognev, 61, who disappeared last March.
As reported by the Prosecutor's Office of the Gulripsh District, Ognev's remains were found on December 23, 2010, together with all his personal belongings - an ID, binocular, signal flare pistol and other things.
As concluded by Gennady Bobua, chief forensic medical examiner of the republic, who examined the remains, no signs of violent death were found. All the things and remains of Ognev were handed over to the family of the deceased archaeologist and taken to the city of Krasnodar. The criminal investigation into his disappearance was stopped for lack of crime attributes.
Let us remind you that archaeologist Gennady Ognev, Chief Specialist of the Department for Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Abkhazia, disappeared in the mountains of Abkhazia on March 13, 2010. He was engaged in exploring the ruins of the Great Abkhazian Wall in the upper section of the Kelasur River.
The search of the missing archaeologist was undertaken by his colleagues, militiamen and employees of the Department for Emergencies. On March 30 the search was stopped.
