Symposium on interethnic relations took place in Rostov

The symposium "Administrative Experience in the Field of Interethnic Relations in the Don Region (in the Context of the Present Situation in Russia's South)" took place in Rostov-on-Don on November 19. It was arranged by the Administration of the Rostov region, where the issue of interethnic relations is regarded very seriously. The region lies at the border of the Northern Caucasus and Central Russia. Many displaced people and refugees from almost every Caucasian region live here.

Reports on the problem were given at a plenary sitting by Valentina Marinova, chair of the regional administration's committee for national affairs and relations with political parties and public associations, and by Vasily Gatashov, chief adviser of the South Federal District's department to work with subjects' authorities and local government bodies. Symposium participants worked out recommendations how the government bodies and public associations should correct their approach to the problem of interethnic relations regulation.
