In Georgia, Labourites appeal against new system of communal bills

Today, the Labour Party of Georgia filed a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court in the context of introduction of new rules of paying for communal utilities.

Members of the opposition factions in the Tbilisi City Council have sharply criticized the decision of the Government of Georgia that non-payers for utility services, namely those, who fail to pay for water supply and garbage removal, will be disconnected from electricity and gas.

As stated today by Kakha Dzaganiya, ideological secretary of the Labour Party, this decision of the authorities is unprecedented: the law obliges the Commission for Regulation of Power and Water Supplies to protect consumers' rights, but by adoption of the new universal system of communal payments the Commission has itself violated the law.

Labourites said that they have a bill ready, which assumes cancellation of the new rules, the "News-Georgia" reports.
