NAC reports prevention of terror acts in Astrakhan Region

Employees of the National Anti-Terror Committee (NAC) have detained members of a criminal grouping, who planned a series of terror acts in the Astrakhan Region. The Committee reports that the detained possible organizer of the planned diversions was involved in attacks on militiamen in Astrakhan in July and August this year.

Let us note here that today in the morning Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of the Russian Federation, said that the organizer of those attacks was Gaini Zhumagaziev, 39, who was killed last night in the Lenin District of Astrakhan.

The NAC has reported that in the evening on October 18 investigators received information about the whereabouts of a possible organizer of the attacks and detained him in a private home, despite his armed resistance.

According to the Committee, the detainee had a belt with two grenades, a knife, a loaded magazine for automatic firearms, and a machinegun and two pistols, earlier stolen from militiamen.

Besides, within the same case eight more persons were arrested and two more are on the wanted list, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

According to Mr Markin, all the attackers were followers of a radical extremist religion, the "Interfax" reports.
