Russian doctors will help residents of Abkhazian Gali District

On October 17-27, the district, which is bordering on Georgia, will host a humanitarian action "Mutual Aid. Partnership. Safety", when Russian doctors will render free medical care to local residents.

In the morning on Monday, October 18, in the field mobile hospital deployed in the city of Gali doctors began examining local patients. The facility has its own laboratory, a fluorography and X-ray units.

On October 18, Semyon Grigoriev, Russia's Ambassador to Abkhazia, said at a press conference held in the Embassy, that the work of Russian frontier guards in Abkhazia "is highly commendable."

In support of the humanitarian action, two aircrafts - a Tu-154 and a transport Il-76 - brought medical personnel and 25 tons of humanitarian goods - medicines, fitness clothing sets, appliances and a lot of other things to Abkhazia.

This is the second humanitarian action organized by the Frontier Service of Russian FSB from the date of deployment of Russian frontier guards in April 2009. The first one was held from May 18 to June 1, 2009. Then, doctors examined 5441 patients in the Gali District, made 110 operations, including surgery and dentistry. Fluorography and ultrasonic examinations were held; and cardiologists gave consultations.

Apart from health care, the help campaign included various workshops for about 350 school teachers in the Gali District and Sukhumi. Leading experts of the Russian Ministry of Education and Sciences gave master classes. Humanitarian aid was delivered to four schools in the Gali District and Tamysh Boarding School located in the Ochamchira District.
