Unauthorized demonstration of anarchists held under antiwar slogans

On November 8, about 60 anarchists and radical ecologists of "Autonomous Action", "Rainbow Keepers" and the Moscow Union of Radical Artists staged an unauthorized demonstration and went along Arbat - one of the central Moscow streets. The action was timed to the birthday of Makhno. Nine activists were detained near the Smolenskaya metro station already after the action had finished, the organizers of the action reported.

Among the slogans heard during the demonstration were those against the war in Chechnya. "Our enemy is not in Chechnya, our enemy is in the Kremlin!" - this slogan appeared during the antiwar campaign and it is still actual, unfortunately. We feel with the persecuted Chechens and want to remind everybody that things happening in Chechnya will have an inevitable effect on our own life, and not only by regular kamikaze explosions. Young guys who return from "hot spots" are used to violence and are specially trained for it. They are found among OMON fighters, police and security officers; and no one is safeguarded from a meeting with them," the organizers of the action note in their press release.
