AI condemns terror act in North Ossetia

The human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) condemns the terror act committed on September 9 by a suicide bomber in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, as a result of which at least 16 peaceful residents were lost and dozens more received injuries.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 9 a strong explosion was triggered in the central marketplace in Vladikavkaz. The bomb was started by a terrorist-suicide bomber who came there in a car. The death roll makes 16 persons; and the terrorist has been identified.

"An attack on people in the course of their everyday life is an open neglect of the right to life and the main principles of humanity," said Andrea Guber, deputy director of the AI's programme for Europe and Middle Asia.

"Russian authorities should immediately hold a careful and fair investigation of the incident. Those guilty of committing this monstrous act should be made answerable according to international human rights standards," runs the statement of the Amnesty International, which arrived to the office of the "Caucasian Knot".

So far, no grouping has taken responsibility for the terror act committed in Vladikavkaz.
