Volgograd is covered with smoke having acrid odour

Today from early morning the central Volgograd is covered with smoke having some chemical smell. Employees of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) are at a loss to explain the reason of this phenomenon.

"The chemical smell appeared early in the morning, at about five a.m.," Olga Sorokina, a resident of the Tsentralny District of Volgograd, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Our balcony door was open; we had to close it, because the odour caused throat congestion."

"Probably, the air above the city is full of smoke; however, there's no fire in the vicinity of Volgograd," said the on duty employee of the Chief Department of the MfE who answered a call to the hotline. "Maybe this is the smoke from the dry grass burning in the city or adjacent areas."

The MfE could not precisely name the reason of the smoke above the city smokes and assumed that the wind could bring it from the Saratov Region, where dry grass is on fire in large area.
