Finnish AI section holds solidarity actions for human rights in Russia

The Finnish human rights activists who held protest actions in Helsinki against inefficient investigation in Russia of the murders of Anna Politkovskaya, Magomed Evloev, Natalia Estemirova and Maksharip Aushev, and an action in support of the Russian "Strategy 31", are going to continue their actions in support of human rights in Russia at the Russian embassy in Helsinki.

"The Finnish section of Amnesty International (AI) was the organizer of the action on May 31, held in front of the embassy of Russia in Helsinki. Earlier, a similar action took place on March 31, but because of terror acts in Moscow its main topic was the slogan 'Against terror, against violence'," Kerkko Paananen, one of participants of action and a member of board of the Finnish-Russian Civil Forum, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, the aim of the campaign is to attract people to the struggle for human rights in Russia.

"Our result is that already actions were held not only in Helsinki. We plan to further hold them, same as in Russian cities, under the aegis of Amnesty International in other cities of Europe," said Mr Paananen.

The action had 10 participants; they held posters: "Amnesty International, Helsinki 31", "Article 31 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation: right to peaceful assemblies", "Stop Violence", "Article 11 of the European Convention of Human Rights: right to freedom of peaceful assemblies", and some posters in the Finnish language.
