MFA of Abkhazia is concerned of situation in Gali District

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Abkhazia is highly worried of the renewed Georgia's terrorist activity. This is stated in the MFA's document disseminated today on the occasion of the recent casualties of attacks - Gennady Kvitsiniya, an employee of the State Customs Committee, who was killed on June 1, and Dmitri Katsiya, head of the administration of Rep village of the Gali District, who was murdered on June 3.

"There's no doubt that these crimes had been pre-planned and organized by special agencies of Georgia, which had restarted their terrorist activities with the aim to destabilize the situation in the Gali District," the document states.

The Abkhazia's MFA is indignant that "these Georgia's actions are undertaken at the background of active presence of international community in Georgia, in particular, of the EU monitoring mission, deployed in the pre-frontier territory with Abkhazia."

The Ministry is addressing all the participants of the Geneva process with a demand "to give an adequate estimate to the actions of Georgia, which continues blocking the process of signing the non-use of force agreement, and moreover, threatens the peace and stability in the region."

Let us remind you that on June 1, in upper area of the Gali District, in Saberio village, a car with employees of the State Customs Committee of Abkhazia was shelled. As a result, Gennady Kvitsiniya, head of the Saberio customs post, was lost, and two more employees were injured.

On June 3 in the evening, at about 8:30 p.m. Moscow time, on the way to the city of Gali, between the villages of Primorskoe and Rep of the lower part of the Gali District, the car of Dmitri Katsiya, head of the Rep administration, was attacked. Mr Katsiya died in situ from his wounds.

Earlier, on January 29, in Chuburkhindzh village, Gali District, an explosion killed an employee of the criminal investigation division of the Gali ROVD (Interior Division) and wounded two peaceful residents; four other militiamen and a local were heavily wounded. Then, the Abkhazian did not exclude involvement of Georgian special services in the incident.
