Delegates of extraordinary congress of Circassians demand Circassian autonomy

Today, the delegates of the congress of Circassian people, which takes place in Karachai-Circassia, have adopted a resolution with a demand to restore the Circassian autonomy within the Russian Federation in the status of a republic.

"To confirm the earlier decision on restoration of the Circassian Autonomous Region in the status of a republic within the Russian Federation," runs point 1 of the adopted resolution.

The congress speakers kept asserting that "the constitutional norms of the Karachai-Circassian Republic (KCR) on equality of human rights and freedoms irrespective of sex, race, nationality and language are not observed. The federal centre promised more than once to correct the situation, but residents of the republic see no positive changes."
