Moscow municipal court found legal the sentence for extortion in the Politkovskaya murder case

Moscow municipal court dismissed a cassation appeal of the advocates of former militiaman Sergey Khadzhykurbanov, who was declared not guilty in the journalist Anna Politkovskaya murder case but then sentenced to eight years in prison for extortion money from a key witness.

We will remind you that Moscow Tagansky court found Khadzhykurbanov guilty in extortion of $350 000 from Sergey Pavlyuchenkov, key witness in Politkovskaya murder case. Under sentence Khadzhykurbanov got 8 years in prison and Chervone Ogly, second person involved in this case, was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Today, the Moscow municipal court concluded to affirm the Tagansky court decision and to dismiss a cassation appeal of the defense. The sentence is considered now entering into legal force, ITAR-TASS reports.

Meantime, on 23 April of this year, it became known that the Moscow Tverskoy court sustained a claim against the State applied by Dmitry Grachev, who was arrested in the Anna Politkovskaya murder case, imprisoned for 8 months and then exculpated.

According to Grachev's advocate Alexey Mikhalchik, his client demanded in his claim damage compensation to the sum of 2.1mln rubles. However the General Prosecutor's Office regarded this sum overrate and the court reduced it to 100 000 rubles, Rosbalt informs.

The advocate believes that "such sum is not an adequate compensation for the caused damage" and he purposes to dispute this decision in a higher court and even to apply to the European human rights court, if needed.
