Youth of Nagorno-Karabakh holds action in memory of victims of Armenians' genocide

Nagorno-Karabakh has started a series of actions devoted to the 95th anniversary of the genocide of Armenian people which falls on April 24, 2010.

On April 16 in Stepanakert, the "Union of Youth of Artsakh" of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) "Dashnaktsutyun" organized an action with an invitation of the whole world community to recognize the genocide of Armenians. At the pedestal of the symbol of Karabakh - the monument "We and Our Mountains" - the participants of the action formed a live chain around the monument and sang Armenian patriotic songs.

Artyom S., a participant of the action, said: "We hold such action for the first time. It was a tradition to organize indoor seminars or roundtables. But we never had such mass actions near the famous monument."

Journalist Anait D. has noted: "We never forget our history, and we understand that recognition of the genocide is very important. We, young people, want to contribute to the process."

The problem of recognition of the Armenians' genocide in the Ottoman Empire consists of the following: Armenia states that during World War I (in 1915-1922) Turks killed one and a half million Armenians; and this fact should be recognized as genocide. Turkey is categorically against recognising this tragedy of the past as genocide.
