High water damaged 500 houses in Volgograd Region

The high water is stronger in the Volgograd Region; already 12 settlements are in the flooding zone. As reported by the regional branch of the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE), 469 houses were damaged, and hundreds of residents were evacuated.

Let us remind you that yesterday, on March 22, at night as a result of a dam breakthrough a 15-km section of Elton-Engelov railway was flooded in the Pallas District, Volgograd Region: railway traffic was suspended but reopened by the morning.

As of 6:00 a.m. Moscow time on March 23 because of the spring high water, about 500 houses in three districts of the region were flooded. "In the first decade of March the total precipitations exceeded the norm by more than 4 times," the "Interfax" was told at the press service of local MfE.

The website "V1.ru" reports that 960 persons suffered from the nature outrage; district administrations, MfE units and militiamen try to mitigate the consequences. Victims receive timely medical aid.

Today, the risk zone covers 23 districts and Islands of Zelyony and Sarpinskiy in the area of Volgograd. Under the worst scenario, over 30,500 persons and about 9000 houses can be flooded, the "AiF" writes.
