Militiamen suspected of beating a local arrested in Astrakhan
The Kirov District Court of Astrakhan has arrested two employees of the city UVD (Interior Department), who, under the version of the investigation, had beaten a detainee forcing him to confess. In total, six persons figure in the case.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier the Kirov Court, despite inspectors' petition to put two suspects into custody, released them on bail of 70 and 100 thousand roubles. Their four colleagues signed recognizance not to leave.
Then, the prosecutor's office appealed against this decision at the Astrakhan Regional Court, which cancelled the first instance's decision and sent the case to a new consideration.
"At the new consideration the bail was replaced by custody," runs the statement of the press services of the investigatory committee at the prosecutor's office of the Astrakhan Region.
The militiamen's defence gave no comments yet.
