EU Mission in Georgia names "Imedi" actions irresponsible

The "Chronicle" simulated by the "Imedi" TV Company could destabilize the situation in conflict zones in Georgia. This was stated today by the Observation Mission of the European Union in Georgia.

The Mission reminds the interested parties that "irresponsible reports of this sort may seriously destabilize the situation near administrative borders" where "dangerous and essential incidents could happen."

In this context, the Mission has addressed "responsible persons with a request to completely comprehend the value of their actions in the future." "They should meet everybody's interests and improve safety and stability," runs the observers' statement.

It is also noted that after the simulated "Chronicle" the European observers are permanently studying the situation near administrative borders. By their estimates, after the "Imedi" report the situation in these territories is calm and quiet, although some anxiety among the population was registered.

"During the TV programme we used our telephone hotline to keep permanent contact with Russian frontier guards and authorities within the mechanism of incident prevention and reaction to incidents. We managed to convince them that the TV report was simulated, and rechecked that the degree of their readiness was constant," the EU Observation Mission reports.
