Resident of Dagestan complains of being beaten and robbed by militiamen

Today, Magomedtaga Nurulaev, 30, a resident of Mutsalaul village, Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, has stated that he was tortured and robbed by power agents.

As he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the incident happened at night on March 12. "Yesterday I took the train 'Makhachkala-Moscow'. Several armed militiamen entered my compartment; without presenting themselves, they came up to me and asked to go out, saying that they had questions and promised to let me go soon."

According to his story, then he was handed over to other militiamen - in camouflage and masks. They immediately took away his two mobile phones, money in the sum of 100,000 roubles (3330 US dollars) and documents, and put a plastic over his head.

"They put me into a car under threat to kill, as I supposedly had attitude to militants. Nobody listened to my objections; they began beating my face with a club and fists. They brought me to some room and went on beating. Then, I felt a pistol pressed to my head. They told me that I'd be shot dead immediately, but no shot followed. This was repeated three times," Mr Nurulaev said.

"Then, I was put into a car. They told me again that they would take me to execution, but after a while the car stopped; and I was just pushed out. Militiamen left at once, I removed the bag from my head and saw my bag near me on the ground. I took the bag and used bypassing cars to get home," he concluded.

He found his documents in the bag, but the money and telephones disappeared. He said that his relatives immediately addressed the Kizilyurt District Prosecutor's Office; however, their application was not accepted there; they were told to address the transport prosecutor's office in Makhachkala.
At the Kizilyurt ROVD (District Interior Division) and in the MIA of Dagestan the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told that they knew nothing about the incident.

The resident of Mutsalaul also said that militiamen already detained him in 2002, suspecting of participation in blowing up a train; however, the court acquitted him. Magomedtaga Nurulaev is married and has two minor children.
