Rostov Region: doctors examine residents because of mass poisoning

Medical people are visiting, on the house-by-house basis, residents of the city of Semikarakorsk, Rostov Region, with the aim to prevent a spread of infection, which already caused hospitalization of 10 persons. The Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case on the fact of mass poisoning of citizens.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 17-21 over 400 persons, including children, addressed with diarrhoea syndrome to the Semikarakorsk district hospital. The reason was, as sanitary doctors found out, contamination of the potable water supplied by the local water line.

Now, in the Semikarakorsk District, Rostov Region, symptoms of intestinal infection have been fixed in 77 persons, including 41 children. In the context of the accident, district physicians have organized house-by-house visits. "We know that at any infection approximately every fifth person addresses for medical help; therefore, in order to 'screen out' everybody, we go and examine all the residents," the doctors say.

According to local physicians, the overwhelming majority are under out-patient treatment, the disease progress is rather light. Nevertheless, the screening visits will continue throughout the whole incubation period. Schools and kindergartens are disinfected now, as the "AiF" writes.
