North Ossetia to present in Paris its development projects for mountainous territories
In March-April 2010, the 183rd Session of the Executive Council of the UNESCO in Paris will see the presentation "Sustainable Development of Mountainous Territories", prepared by the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, North-Caucasian Mining-Metallurgy Institute and Innovation-Technological Centre.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Ministry for Investments and Foreign Economic Relations of North Ossetia that the importance of development of mountainous territories is caused by the fact that the mountain strip having the area of 3850 square kilometres makes 48 percent of the total area of the republic. The entrails contain various minerals, the complex metal ores being most valuable.
The republic's territory has about 300 detected outlets of curative mineral water, united into 42 deposits. These sources of ecologically pure mineral and fresh glacial water are mainly concentrated in the mountainous and foothill areas with good opportunities for creating recreational centres and balneology treatment.
According to Pavel Puschin, Minister for Investments and Foreign Economic Relations of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, each of the eight municipal districts and the capital of the republic have formed investment platforms; and on the basis of the analysis made a development strategy was defined for each territory.
