Ministry of Finance ready to write off debts from TV-25

In early February Merab Merkviladze, director and owner of the television company TV-25, had a meeting with Ombudsman of Georgia Georgiy Tugushi and discussed the issue of asking the local Ministry Finance to write-off part of the company's debts, since otherwise the channel might be stopped.

According to Mr Merkviladze, after that meeting Ombudsman Tugushi met Minister of Finance of Georgia Baindurashvili, who gave his general consent to write-off the debts; however, some technical problems arose with collecting all the documents needed to start negotiations with the Ministry of Finance, as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Merkviladze hopes to have all the documents ready by the end of month and start talks in early March. But before, as he hopes, on February 26, at President Mikhail Saakashvili's speech at the parliament of Georgia, the Christians-Democrats would raise the point of writing-off a part of the debts of independent mass media.
