Round table as attempt to find mutual understanding between representatives of public organizations and power organs of Ingushetia

A round table for representatives of public organizations and power organs was arranged in the Sleptsovskaya village, Ingushetia, on October 11. Members of the Society for Russian-Chechen Friendship, as well as local journalists took part in the discussion.

The participants touched upon subjects concerned with the situation in Ingushetia and in camps of displaced persons from Chechnya.

Head of the department for public and non-government organizations of the Ingush Ministry of Justice Khamzat Barkinkhoyev reported that about 26 public non-government and political organizations and associations are registered in Ingushetia now. He also said the Ministry of Justice provides legal advice free of charge, and non-government organizations could also come to the ministry's legal aid. This information proved to be a pleasing surprise for the NGO representatives.

The round table resulted in the decision to arrange a meeting of Chechen and Ingush NGOs in order that:

  1. To decide on breaches of IDPs' rights and of the law of the Russian Federation "On the Displaced Persons" having place on the territory on the Ingush Republic.
  2. To work out common goals and tasks of the strategic partnership between Ingush and Chechen NGOs intimately in contact with the Coalition of Public Associations of Saint-Petersburg "Round Table".
