In Astrakhan, 7 out 19 earlier detained STSI inspectors arrested
On February 9, the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan authorized arrest of 7 out of 19 servicemen of the local battalion of the Road-Post Service (RPS), suspected of regular extorting bribes from motorists. Now, 11 of them are in custody (four inspectors were taken to the SIZO (pre-trial facility) on February 8 and 7).
The future of others, including Arkadiy Kirsanov, commander of the scandalous squadron, will be decided today. According to some sources, now 38 RPS servicemen are detained.
As reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Mikhail Muranov, head of the division for investigating especially important cases of the Investigatory Department for the Astrakhan Region of the ICPO, it was established that employees of three stationary posts regularly extorted bribes from the car drivers, who were passing by the posts.
"Bribes were extorted for non-making protocols for administrative offences, if any, and for free passage through the post without checking the vehicle, when examining the transport documents and driver's licenses," Mr Muranov said.
