Astrakhan: 2 out of 19 detained GIBDD employees arrested

As reported by the website of the Regional Department of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office, the court decided to arrest 2 out of 19 detained Astrakhan employees of the STSI (State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, known as "GIBDD"), while the arrest of other suspects is currently considered.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Astrakhan inspectors of the local prosecutor's office together with employees of the local department of the FSB detained a whole subdivision of road police inspectors, suspected of bribe-extortion. Arkadii Kirsanov, commander of Platoon No. 1 of the OBDPS-1 of the Regional Interior Department, was detained together with the on duty road inspectors of three posts. A criminal case was opened on the fact of extortion of bribes by a group of persons under preliminary arrangement.

The employees of the STSI are accused of extorting bribes from drivers for the last three years, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

The FSB agents assert that road police inspectors set up the whole scheme of extorting money from drivers and delivering the "earnings" upward along the whole official chain, the RBC reports.

Investigatory bodies believe that the monthly illegal revenues of the platoon commander reached 150,000 roubles, but a part of this sum, according to the inspectors, went up to his bosses.
