Azerbaijan: Prosecutor's Office confirms charges of drug storage presented to journalist Fatullaev

According to the joint statement of the Baku City Prosecutor's Office and the Central Police Administration of Baku, the inquiry of the criminal case against Einullah Fatullaev, editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Real Azerbaijan", accused of storing drugs, is near its end.

According to the source, Fatullaev said at the inquiry that he was not a drug user; however, during a check in Colony No. 12 held on December 29, 2009, drugs were found in his footwear and jacket.

The statement also runs that 0.081 grams of heroin was found on Fatullaev's cellmate Shain Shamsiev. "However, he was not charged, since the drug amount was within the norm for personal use (the official interpretation of the Criminal Code, published by the State Office of Public Prosecutor, runs that criminal punishment follows if the amount of detected drug exceeds one norm for personal use, - comment of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent)," the joint statement further marks.

The witnesses confirmed at confrontation that Fatullaev really had drugs on him. The forensic-chemical examination showed that the heroin found on the inmates was home-made.
