DFSB of Dagestan: the killed Egyptian had organized terror act at Makhachkala DPS

Citizen of Egypt Mohmad Mohammad Shakhban, also known as "Safe Islam", who was liquidated in Dagestan, was the founder of the al-Qaeda network in Northern Caucasus and main organizer of the explosion on January 6 in Makhachkala. This was reported by the Department of the FSB (DFSB) for Dagestan.

According to the Department, after liquidation of the previous al-Qaeda boss in Dagestan, known as "Doctor Muhammad", Shakhban was sent, under the order of the leader of Imarat Kavkaz Doku Umarov, to Dagestan. The FSB reports that his duties were "organization of subversive and terrorist acts, coordination of the bandit underground and supervision over deliveries of arms and explosives from the territory of Georgia."

Under request of Egyptian authorities, Safe Islam was in international search for terrorism, and in early 1990s took part in warfare in Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Lebanon and Georgia. In 1992, he came to Chechnya as a member of the Islamic terrorist organization "Moslems Brothers". He was comrade-in-arms of the well-known Arab extremist Khattab.

According to the FSB, in 1996-1998 Safe Islam headed the Grozny-based branch of the charitable fund "Benevolence Foundation International"; then, he opened in Chechnya, as ordered and supported by international terrorist organizations, the "Kavkaz" centre for training terrorists, where he personally taught them how to use mines and explosives.

The source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in Dagestan DFSB said that Safe Islam was the main organizer of the act of terrorism on January 6 in Makhachkala, when a suicide-bomber blew up a car stuffed with explosive at the entrance to the DPS (Road Police Sentry Service) division.

Let us note here that so far the web-resources run by the armed underground have not confirmed the Safe Islam's death, and his photo is still in the gallery of Imarat Kavkaz.

The "Caucasian Knot" already reported that today at night in the Botlikh-Muni motorway employees of law enforcement bodies tried to stop a VAZ-2114 car with suspected militants inside. They opened fire, and wounded a special troop fighter, who later died. Both militants who were in the car were liquidated by response fire. One of them was later identified as Mohmad Mohammad Shakhban, and the other - as Ibragim Magomedov, 39, a resident of Andi village, Botlikh District.
