First candidate to chair Georgia's CEC nominated
On Friday, January 8, consultations were held by members of NGOs with the administration of President of Georgia on to discuss the issues related to electing the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of the country.
The meeting lasted for half an hour; and NGOs nominated their candidate to the post of the CEC chair - Eka Siradze, an employee of the NGO "For Fair Elections and Democracy". The nominee was supported by 14 NGOs; some of them were not even invited to the consultations on January 8.
Ms Siradze herself has noted that the government gave too little time to NGOs for preparing to meet the President. "Our NGO received an invitation to take part in consultations and nominate a candidate only 2 days before the meeting. I made my final decision only by 2 p.m. on January 8," she said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
