Zviad Gamsakhurdia's widow seeks asylum in Germany
Manana Archvadze-Gamsakhurdia - the widow of the first president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia - complains of pressure on her family and asks political asylum in Germany. This is the way she tries to help to release her son Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, who is kept in pre-trial custody on charges of a murder attempt and illegal firearm storage.
The "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier that Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was detained by police on October 27 as a suspect of deliberate inflicting a gunshot wound to his neighbour David Badzhelidze. Tsotne was sentenced to two months of pre-trial custody.
The "Gazeta.Ru" writes that on Monday Ms Archvadze handed over her petition on political asylum addressed to German Chancellor Angela Merkel via Patricia Flor, ambassador of Germany to Georgia.
Now, Tsotne Gamsakhurdia holds his termless hunger strike in protest against decision of the Tbilisi City Court to extend the investigation on his case by four months.
