MIA of Nakhichevan accuses beaten civil society activists
Two civil society activists - Ilgar Nasibov and Vafadar Eivazov - were summoned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR, Azerbaijan) in the context of attack on them on December 15.
On December 18, inspector of the MIA Hikmet Aliev interrogated the activists for 6 hours. "However, we have an impression that the investigation, instead of searching those, who had beaten us, on the contrary, wants to hush up the case. The questions were more on the reasons and character of our human rights activities than the circumstances of the attack on us," Nasibov said in his telephone conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in his comments on the interrogation.
Moreover, according to his story, at the exit from the building a MIA officer came up to them and in the offensive form said that "University teachers were right to beat them."
On Saturday, December 19, the official newspaper of the NAR "Sharg Gapysy" published an official statement of the local MIA telling about the "unseemly activities" of the employees of the local Resource Centre on Human Rights and Democracy.
